A Mountain of Anime Updates Dropped Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season present a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on holiday treats, and using patience techniques to refrain from yelling at loved ones. I hope you were able to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting developments emerged during the break, and should you missed some of them, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (By 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. But, the key visual for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they could be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not been disclosed yet.
