Dominant Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The 27-year-old won four titles β the highest tally on the circuit β which included successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of Dominance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a historic Β£11m in tournament winnings.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
